Description
This artwork is a striking piece that brilliantly juxtaposes minimalist design with vibrant color. Dominated by a bold yellow background, the central focus is a single soft serve ice cream cone adorned with a chocolate flake, rendered with meticulous attention to detail. The ice cream appears almost tangible, its creamy swirls captivatingly lifelike. Above this sweet delicacy, in stark, contrasting black letters on a white strip, is the word "ICES," evocatively hinting at vintage signage. The composition effectively employs the Kodak Ektar 100 film frame, subtly framing the image and adding a touch of nostalgic charm that harks back to classic photography. The brilliance of this artwork lies in its simplicity — a solitary ice cream cone set against an unadorned, vivid background yet the piece is profoundly evocative, invoking summer memories and the simple pleasure of a quintessential treat. The minimal elements allow a focus on form and color intensity, making the artwork not only visually arresting but also deeply reminiscent. Its appeal is universal; the crisp execution, the interplay between colors, and its evocative nature make it a compelling representation of nostalgic summer delight. This artwork doesn’t merely depict; it transports the viewer into a moment of pure joy and simplicity.
This artwork is a limited edition of 25, gloss photographic print, dry-mounted to aluminium, it is presented in a museum board white window mount and a choice of black or white box frame fitted with anti-reflective UV70% glass. It is signed and numbered on reverse and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
Richard Heeps' seductive, highly saturated colours and sophisticated pictorial structures demonstrate a true love and empathy for his subject matter – be it cool, descriptive interiors, still life, portrait or landscape. His distinctive style pushes the limits of lens-based photography without the need for digital manipulation. He runs his own darkrooms in Cambridge (UK) where he hand prints his colour photography. His work has been exhibited in Museums and Public Galleries around England, and he has participated in Art Fairs around the world, and his work is now part of many international collections.
Presentation
Richard Heeps b. Cambridge, UK, 1965.
Richard Heeps' seductive, highly saturated colours and sophisticated pictorial structures demonstrate a true love for his subject matter – be it cool, descriptive interiors, still life or landscape. His distinctive style pushes the limits of lens-based photography without the need for digital manipulation. He has exhibited widely in museums and galleries. He has four books and has contributed and featured in many high profile publications.
In 2007 Richard along with photographer Natasha Heidler founded Bleach Box Photography Gallery, a platform that participates in worldwide art fairs. The aim is to show powerful images created without digital manipulation. Working with artists, they produce their work from negative in their Cambridge based darkrooms. They source the best materials to produce high-end fine art pieces, and their artworks are now part of many international collections.
Although I was brought up in East Anglia, I was heavily influenced by America, I visited American bases, I kept magazine cuttings and I followed drag racing. The speed, lifestyle and technicolour is reflected in my imagery. "American" colour is a major aspect to my work, it drives my equipment and material choices.
At the age of ten I began participating in Art Shows and became comfortable with showing my work and the praise and criticism which is part of an artist's development. In my early paintings Manhattan was a reoccurring theme, I was fascinated with New York.
In my professional career I have been lucky enough to exhibit my work in Museums and Public Galleries since the 1980's. These days I travel exhibiting at International Art Fairs and I still enjoy connecting with my audience, I am driven to create something and see how people respond to it and how they connect to it.
