Daniel Marenco


Daniel Marenco is a Photojournalist with large experience working for newspapers in Brazil.

In 2015 he had two works nominated for the Esso prize, Brazil's main journalism award. The photo "Earthquake in Kathmandu" showed a funeral ceremony in Nepal and was published in Folha de S. Paulo newspaper, where he worked for five years.

"Marked with iron and fire" was a portrait of a man tortured by police in Rio de Janeiro. The photo was published in O Globo newspaper, where Marenco was a staff photojournalist between 2015 and 2019. In 2009, Marenco was nominated for the same award, with of a series of photos taken inside Porto Alegre's Central Prison. 

In 2014, with the essay “El Gaucho", he was a finalist at the Roberto Villagraz scholarship in Madrid, and with an essay on Brazil's 2013 streets demonstrations, a finalist for the Conrado Wessel Foundation Art Award.

He was nominated for the 7th Leica Photography Best Cultural Contest (2009) in the essay category and for the Petrobras Journalism Award (2015).

Marenco holds a Bachelor's degree in Journalism from the University of Vale do Rio dos Sinos, in São Leopoldo (2007). 

He has been working as a photographer since 1999.

Among his main coverages are the Pan American Games of Guadalajara in 2011, the street protests of 2013 in Brazil, the 2014 FIFA World Cup, the earthquake in Nepal in 2015, the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, the End of Minustah in Haiti (2017), and four presidential elections.

In 2018, Daniel Marenco made his debut in documentaries with "Contramaré".
