The work is signed “GIGER" in the lower right and numbered in the lower left.
The work is originally created for the album by Emerson, Lake & Palmer in 1973. The image is derived from Giger's original design, known as , which was specifically conceived for the album and has since become one of the most recognizable works in the history of progressive rock imagery.
Above the image appears the distinctive ELP logo, also designed by Giger and adopted by the band from that moment onward.
The collaboration between Giger and Emerson, Lake & Palmer emerged in 1973, when Peter Zumsteg, manager of the record label, introduced the band to the artist. Following a concert in Zurich, the group visited Giger at his home, where they encountered his recently completed triptych , created under the influence of their music. Impressed by his vision, the band immediately decided to commission Giger for their album cover, resulting in the creation of .
The work is professionally framed in our own frame-shop, in a custom-made black wooden frame with Plexiglas® Optical HC, offering UV protection, scratch resistance, and minimal reflection.

H. R. Giger (1940–2014) was a Swiss painter, sculptor, and designer, internationally acclaimed for his dark, surreal visions and pioneering biomechanical aesthetic. He achieved global fame through his work in cinema, most notably as the creator of the Xenomorph in Alien, for which he received the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects.

Hans Ruedi Giger was a Swiss artist. Born in 1940, Giger obtained his BFA in architecture and industrial design at the School of Applied Arts, Zürich.
Giger's artworks are created in the biomechanical style, which combines elements of machinery with the human body. His creations have been featured in several film and music posters. Most notably, Giger designed the titular Alien for the Academy Award winning film Alien. Giger died in 2014.
