Description
"Winter Moon" is crafted from solid okoumé wood, an African cousin of the poplar. The very light-colored solid wood is hollowed out, charred, sanded, brushed, and stained. Paths are carved to varying depths; these horizontal lines of force guide the eye and generate energy and movement through their relief. The subtle interplay of light and shadow and the grain of the brushed wood reinforce the raw and vibrant presence of the wall disc. The visual impact is both strong and gentle; silence reigns, time seems suspended. The hues evoke reindeer coats, inviting a sensory journey into the magic of the animal world and a spiritual one through the emotion generated by this sphere that connects us to the cyclical nature of life, to its immensity. An exploration between vitality and contemplation.
Presentation
My work is based on the alliance and interaction of the mineral and the vegetal: I inlay mineral lines of marbles, ceramics and glass pastes into pieces of raw wood with a concern for the right balance between the inertia of the stone and the movement of the wood - Alchemy of these lines seen as a symbol of movements of life.
