Description
This sculptural portrait plays with the codes of pop art. Four blocks of wood and resin assemble to form a fragmented face. The colors oppose each other frankly. A sunny yellow is next to a deep blue and a bright orange.
The composition fragments the gaze. The black line, sharp and precise, outlines the contours of a stylized face. A whimsical hat crowns the whole, bringing a touch of irony. The artist uses acrylic to saturate the space with pure pigments.
The architectural approach is felt in the geometric structure of the object. The volume rises on a matte black base. This contrast reinforces the luminosity of the pigments. The whole offers a joyful and skewed vision of the classic portrait.
The work dates from 2025. It precisely combines the work of wood and the fluidity of acrylic paint.
Presentation
When asked to which artistic current his works refer, Olivier Derveloy, alias Mustache Bleue, responds with a pirouette: "To the EDS movement, Envie de rire, or even to AD, fun Delirious!"
More seriously, the artist graduated in architecture fell into a paint bucket thirty years ago and never came out, explains: "What interests me is to represent the world in which I live, playing on the effects of scale and making him cheerful, joyful, crazy. An impossible world!
