Description
The sculpture presents itself as a ceramic composition where abstraction seems to progressively give birth to recognizable forms. The square frame, covered with a deep blue glaze, evokes a kind of space or membrane around a central core. The irregular and undulating shapes of blue give an impression of movement, almost like waves, clouds, or a transforming material.
In the center, a dark, circular form immediately draws the eye. Its concentric circles, resembling waves or rings of growth, seem to depict a planet, a star, a vortex, or even a miniature world. This ambiguity is important: the work does not seek to precisely represent an object, but to allow the gaze to bring one forth.
This reading corresponds particularly well to the artist's approach. In his work, the figure is not necessarily drawn or modeled in an explicit way: it appears from the material, in a balance between abstraction and figuration. The artist deliberately leaves a space for the unforeseen and for the viewer's interpretation.
Presentation
Fanny Gueniot is a French visual artist who develops a practice crossing painting, drawing, and ceramics. Her pictorial and sculptural practice revolves around the figure, conceived not as a simple representation, but as a fragile apparition, in tension between presence and disappearance. Her works are constructed in a deliberately unstable balance between abstraction and figuration, leaving an essential place for the unfinished, for floating, and for the circulation of the gaze. Material occupies a central place in her work. She does not just seek to describe a form, but to bring it to emerge. The surfaces are constructed by successive strata, like deposits of memory where the gesture remains perceptible. This sensitive approach invites an experience of the gaze that is slow and attentive, where suggestion prevails over affirmation. The figures that appear in her works do not tell a story in the narrative sense. They present themselves as states, fragments, thresholds, leaving the viewer the freedom to build their own connections and interpretation.
