Description

In The Stainless Pandasan: Shine of Serenity, Hiro Ando transforms his iconic Pandasan into a monumental sculpture where softness and strength coexist within the luminous purity of polished metal.
Standing 100 cm tall, this stainless steel figure embodies the quiet authority and benevolent presence that define Ando’s Neo Pop universe.
The sculpture reinterprets the familiar panda silhouette through smooth, rounded volumes that evoke both tenderness and monumental calm.
Its mirror-polished stainless steel surface captures and reflects the surrounding environment, making viewers themselves part of the artwork.
Light slides across the sculpture, constantly reshaping its appearance and creating a living dialogue between object and space.
Pandasan appears both playful and meditative, suspended between pop culture icon and contemporary totemic figure.
Ando draws inspiration from nature’s symbolism while translating it into a universal visual language.
The panda, often associated with peace and fragility, here becomes a serene guardian in metallic form.
The polished surface introduces a futuristic dimension, aligning traditional animal symbolism with urban modernity.
Through industrial material, Ando paradoxically conveys warmth and emotional accessibility.
The sculpture’s monumental stability contrasts with the softness of its contours, creating a harmonious visual tension.
The artist bridges Japanese cultural sensitivity with the global codes of contemporary pop aesthetics.
Pandasan becomes a reflective presence inviting calm and contemplation in modern living spaces.
The work also reveals Ando’s fascination with transforming playful figures into enduring sculptural icons.
Each curve demonstrates technical mastery in shaping stainless steel into organic forms.
The sculpture radiates both visual power and emotional gentleness.
It functions simultaneously as pop statement and timeless sculptural presence.
The reflective metal creates an ever-changing experience, adapting to its environment and viewers.
This piece exemplifies Hiro Ando’s ability to fuse humor, culture, and craftsmanship into monumental works.
The Stainless Pandasan stands as a signature expression of Nippon Neo Pop aesthetics in sculptural form.
For collectors, acquiring such a monumental polished steel Pandasan represents an exceptional opportunity to secure an iconic Hiro Ando creation, combining artistic rarity, strong visual presence, and long-term cultural and patrimonial value within a forward-looking contemporary art collection.

Presentation

Hiro Ando was born in 1973 on the island of Shikoku in Japan. Hiro Ando started his career as an illustrator in 1995. In 2005 he founded with Saori Nakamishi an artist studio in Tokyo to manage the creation and promotion of other young neo-pop artists who express their own popular culture in their creations. Today the studio "Crazynoodles" has ten artists.

Hiro Ando is a versatile artist. He works in oil on canvas, digital media or video. His technique consists of making several sketches before painting on canvas. The painting shapes itself and emerges in the streets of Tokyo at night, and combines lots of colors and graphics. Hiro paints dark cityscapes and goldfish all over the canvas.

The marriage of the two subjects makes the whole of the painting dynamic and violent, with a strange feeling of eternity given by the goldfish which recall old Japanese paintings and watercolors. The sculpture is a recent addition to the media used by Ando, who started working on a series of orange, green sculptures ... inspired by Japanese popular culture. Thus the cat, which is a lucky charm in Japan, like the Maneki-Neko, takes different forms such as the samurai or the sumo wrestler.

The artist translates this theme into a modern style. The shiny and smooth materials, the vivid colors, the brutal but rounded shapes of Hiro Ando's sculptures take us to the world of manga in which the artist's generation grew up. Hiro Ando's art is the meeting between the Meiji era and Manga, he is Shogun in the world of Pokemon, he is traditional Japan seen through the eyes of young people: he certainly belongs to Japanese neo pop art.
