ELS - Evelyne Simonet

France • 1930

Biography

Born in 1930, and revealed at the age of 40, Evelyne Simonet graduated from l’Ecole supérieure technique d’art et de publicité. Her encounter with sculptor César was a trigger for her artistic career.

Her favorite subject is the female figure: "Woman plays a main role in my creation, her harmonious shapes inspire me. I like representing her in all its states, seductive, active, powerful, coiled, admired..... I like sculpting her freely", says the artist. She "loves" (just like its title indicates "Coiled Woman") her curves, her twists towards a perpetual search for harmony. Her proficiency in the technique plus her sensibility, makes her a master of sculpture, in the same line as Auguste Rodin's.

The artist exhibits her work in Parisian galleries (exhibition "In Freedom" where fourteen women share their view about women freedom) as well as in outdoor exhibitions, such as in La Place des Vosges in La Défense ("Le Baiser"). Evelyne Simonet works as well on numerous orders from companies (hotels, town halls, private collections). Her work was awarded by the city of Paris, who gave her a silver medal for her work in 1983.
