Biography

Nicolas Vasse, French artist born in 1979, lives and works in Paris. He studied philosophy, wrote, and rediscovered painting through Gustave Moreau and Van Gogh first, then through the impressionists, and later through Nicolas De Staël, Pierre Soulages, Zao Wou-Ki, Georges Mathieu, Mark Rothko, Hans Hartung, Jackson Pollock, Serge Saunière, Fabienne Verdier... and traditional Chinese painting. Many paths, experiments, supports, mediums and materials have shaped her vision over the years. It took her this long time to deeply grasp the poetic, existential, vital importance of the almost mineral trace of the material deposited on the canvas. The rooting continues a little more each day.
