"For as long as I can remember, art has been for me a means of coming to terms with my immediate environment. I have to find a balance between nature and that which is man made, including the art work itself. Something universal and satisfying - something beautiful, should enter into this balance. Working in the service of these qualities, is a dynamic process which should keep me occupied for the rest of my life."
"I have never cared to make so called 'protest art' as I do not see my way open to benefit from other people's misery."
- Thijs Nel
