Virgilio Simonetti

Virgilio Simonetti (Rome, 1897 - Rome, 1982) was an Italian painter and watercolourist. he was the son of the painter Amedeo, called "Momo" (1874-1922) and his wife, Ersilia Tomassoni. He began to draw figurines, inspired by the novel Romanticism by Gerolamo Rovetta. From a trip to the sea, in Santa Marinella, he came back with sketches and small studies. 

His father introduced him to the group of XXV artists of the Roman countryside when he was very young. For the chromatic choice, he was inspired by Armando Spadini (1883-1925) and in the research for a stability of the outline, which did not suffocate the brilliance of the color, he had as model the post-impressionistic and the Macchiaioli Tuscan painting.
