Dasz Panda is a visual artist from Reunion Island. Born in Paris, he grew up in Reunion Island.
He lives and works in Reims.
He began his studies in Reunion Island in the Applied Arts department in 1995. He continued his higher education at the Perpignan School of Fine Arts (DNAP in 1998). In 2001 he obtained his DNSEP diploma, design option, at the ESAD in Reims.
Although he works on various media and with various techniques, drawing and sculpture of raw materials hold a privileged place in his work.
The visual culture of the 1970s and 1980s is particularly present in his work: on the one hand with references to scholarly culture, notably the artists of the Free Figuration movement, and on the other with references to the codes of the first urban arts. The very bold, sometimes fluorescent, hues recall the excesses of this time that was not afraid of color, before the austere 90s. His other source of inspiration comes from primitive arts, from all horizons. Indeed, if the cultures of Oceania are very represented, he also integrates popular European references into his creations.
His works, despite their dreamlike or fantastical or even whimsical aspect, give the sensation of a strong anchoring in materiality, in a thrilling and real life.
He has been working under the pseudonym Dasz Panda since the early 2010s.
