Biography
Silvina Mamani was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1973 and moved to NYC in 1997. Trained as a sculptor, the artist looks behind the figure and carves a space from a flat plane in paint. She depicts forms, mostly female, in solo or in groups, in repose, playing or dancing to an unsung musical score.
Mamani paints on the back of wallpaper out of a desire to reuse and recycle found material. After a decade of using wallpaper, she has come to prefer it to standard artist paper.
