Biography

Narrabri Nakamarra is the daughter of the famous painter from Papunya Tula, Makinti Napanangka. She was born in 1950 in Haasts Bluff and lived there for several years before settling in the community of Papunya. Narrabri then went to Kintore where she still lives with her husband Hilary Tjapaltjarri, their two daughters and their five grandchildren. She started painting for the "Papunya Tula Artists" in 1999. At first her style was very much influenced by that of her mother, particularly in the use of straight lines representing sand dunes as well as in the choice of the theme of her works, "Lupulnga", the female ceremonial site of which her mother is the ritual guardian. But in recent years Narrabri has developed a style of its own.
