Biography

Philippine Boulay is a French artist, born in 1992. She currently lives and works between London and Paris.

She studied in London where she obtained a bachelors degree in Fine arts with a specialization in painting at the University of Arts. She then obtained a master's degree in Central Saint Martins.

Her work is like pictorial poetry, it combines her passion for abstract painting and literature on the same canvas. She depicts mostly dreamlike landscapes, which she calls dreamscapes, they emanate feelings and emotions.

Fascinated by the memory and the study of the human being, Philippine Boulay invites the spectator to a journey into introspection. She applies several layers of paint instinctively, her paintings transcribe the different thresholds of personality, going from the conscious to the unconscious.

The reason why abstraction suits her is because abstraction allows her to easily release her thoughts and gives free rein to interpretation and imagination.

The artist draws her inspiration from classic references, from pioneers of abstraction like Malevitch to abstract expressionist. She gets inspired as well by contemporary styles such as street art, as she admires the style and devotion in this art.
