Pinchuck Prize award 2009, Masha Shubina is a free and cheerful artist who is sharing her time between Ukraine and India in the winter. Since the beginning of her artistic career, she has been creating a series of colorful self-portraits, announcing, in so doing, the selfies' era, prior to the existence of Facebook and Instagram.
Far from being purely narcissistic, the artist - using different media such as paintings, drawings and embroideries - focuses on the underlying urgency to love oneself. Using humor, Masha advocates a wholehearted plea to start exploring the love of self, a transgenerational topic, the relevance of which is witnessed by the large audience appreciating her work.
