Biography
Born in the suburbs of Philadelphia, USA in 1917, Andrew Wyeth was a visual artist, predominantly specializing in realist and regionalist painting. A key figure in the middle 20th century art scene, the artist came to be known for his watercolor and dry brush portraits, which often encapsulated the middle-class American experience, and the natural environments surrounding him.
Wyeth's work garnered controversial reviews for the duration of his career. As a faithful watercolorist, and realist painter in a predominantly abstractionist industry, the artist was criticized for his commitment to portraying rural subjects. His work now remains in most major collections across America, including those at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City and the Whitney Museum of American Art. His work is also permanently exhibited at the White House in Washington D.C., in a private room decorated during President George W. Bush's tenure.
