Anthony Shagan

The only boy among five sisters, Anthony was born and raised in New York. From the age of five, he knew he wanted to be an artist, spending his childhood drawing incessantly. When he was twelve, he tried oil painting and was inspired by the works of Leonardo da Vinci. As an adolescent, he spent hours learning to imitate the skills of the great masters. It was during this time that he discovered his passion for portraiture and decided to devote himself to painting professionally.

When choosing his models, Anthony is drawn to individuals who possess unique and captivating expressions or intimate moments of beauty. He works from various colour studies and sketches to capture atmosphere, layering thick and thin layers of paint to create a particular mood. His approach to portraiture is not limited to simple likeness, but seeks to establish a deep emotional connection with the viewer.
