Biography
Amelia Briggs makes bloated, colorful works using images rooted in early childhood. She builds up layers of fiber, faux fur and latex to inflate the surface as if it could pop. Squishy and puffy, each piece subverts traditional notions of value and worth. From recycled toys to buried cartoons, she re-contextualizes the objects of our past to give us a new outlook on the present. The viewer is transported to another time, when seemingly disposable items gave us unexpected joy and wonder. Her work sparks the imagination using the colors and forms of our collective youth, reconstructed through the lens of time and experience. Briggs is a U.S. artist based in Nashville, TN. Her work has been exhibited internationally and throughout the U.S.
