Ted Hinrichs' abstract painting practice is rooted in his continual fascination with the dynamics of relationships. His work explores the variety of languages used to communicate with other humans and with the universe. He begins with a relationship concept then uses colors and shapes to portray his understanding of the elements involved in communicating within it. The image consists of many layers that journal the flow of discovery. Within the layers are mysterious shapes that resemble the nature of the language of imagination.
Ted Hinrichs is a local Kansas City artist with a studio in Blue Springs, Missouri
Ted received his Bachelor's degree from The University of Kansas in 1974. During his time at KU, he began experimenting with art, especially painting, and loved it. However, after graduating Ted entered the business world and art took a back seat to the energy it took to compete in that environment. During this time Ted also became interested in religious studies, and has led religious studies for more than thirty years. These experiences add an undertone of influence in his work. After selling his business he decided to pursue his passion for art. In the fall of 2007, he entered the Kansas City Art Institute full time and majored in painting. The Art Institute environment allowed Ted to immerse himself in the kind of attitude and discipline it would take to become a successful artist. During this time Ted was named to the Dean's list. After a year and a half, he felt it was time to combine his experiences and start working on his own.
