Bri Cirel

Bri Cirel's oil paintings combine bold text and graphic design with photo realistic imagery referenced from commercial culture and art history. Using a multiple stage method masking, painting in oil, and layering, Cirel creates dynamic interactions between text and imagery that can be viewed in a variety of visual experiences and challenge how visual information is prioritized. Cirel explains, “I use text in my paintings to deliver commentary while also utilizing the font's graphic qualities to distort or contain imagery."

   With an emphasis on graphic design, Bri's influences also include advertisement and cinema. Her work often examines art history and addresses social politics.
