Biography
Brooklyn painter Marcus Leslie Singleton depicts intimate moments of Black life. He has exhibited his work at galleries and art fairs in New York, Los Angeles, and Seattle. Singleton reflects on the process of identity building and questions around Black consciousness. His narrative scenes portray experiences of Black joy, as well as the challenges of existence in a world in which Black individuals are routinely the victims of police brutality while their work and bodies are conversely fetishized. Singleton's work highlights the routine aspects of the daily life of a Black man; his figures are seen chopping vegetables, chatting with friends, driving, and taking Zoom calls from the couch.
