The oil painting on cardboard, titled "Before the Rain", masterfully captures the tension and anticipation in the atmosphere just moments before a summer downpour. The artist uses thick, expressive brushstrokes and a rich impasto technique to create a dramatic sky filled with swirling clouds in shades of blue, gray, lilac, and soft pink. The sky dominates the composition, conveying movement and depth as the storm gathers.
The lower portion of the painting presents a peaceful rural landscape, contrasting with the turbulent sky above. A small cluster of houses with muted pink rooftops is nestled among dense green foliage. The buildings appear calm and untouched by the impending storm, creating a striking juxtaposition between the land and sky. In the distance, a subtle touch of golden light highlights the tops of the trees, hinting at the last rays of sunlight before the rain arrives.
The use of color in the clouds is particularly striking. The artist blends cool blues with warm purples and soft peach tones, suggesting the complex interplay of light and moisture in the atmosphere. The clouds, painted with heavy, almost sculptural strokes, seem to shift and swirl, reinforcing the feeling of an approaching storm.
The foreground features a stretch of land painted in earthy greens and browns, grounding the composition and leading the viewer's eye toward the distant village. The horizontal lines of the landscape contrast with the vertical energy of the sky, further emphasizing the feeling of an impending change in weather.
Through "Before the Rain", the artist conveys the beauty and power of nature's cycles. The painting captures the fragile balance between calm and storm, between stillness and movement. The village, small beneath the vast sky, serves as a reminder of human vulnerability in the face of natural forces. Yet, there is no sense of fear—only quiet anticipation, as if the landscape itself is holding its breath before the first raindrop falls.

Works by Boris Serdyuk are held in museums in the Sumy and Chernihiv regions, as well as in private collections in Ukraine, European countries, the USA, Israel, and other countries.
In 2018, the artist entered the global art space of the creative platform in New York, where seven of his works were included in the catalog "Painting & Graphics."
Currently lives and works in Kremenchuk, Poltava Region.
Took his first steps in the world of visual arts within the walls of his local school, then studied at Yuriev-Polsky Pedagogical School. After graduation, he returned to his homeland and started working as a drawing and painting teacher.
Later, he realized that for an artist, creative freedom is essential. Thus, after seventeen years of teaching, he left the profession to focus on his creative work. The artist is content to have the opportunity to engage in his beloved craft, which he considers the meaning of his life.
His journey had its ups and downs, victories in competitions, and recognition from admirers, yet he never ceased his determined quest for his artistic path. In ancient times, "serdyuk" referred to professional infantrymen in the Cossack ranks. This heritage likely passed down not only the surname but also many Cossack traits to the artist, including hard work, modesty, and human dignity.
Boris Serdyuk creates in genres such as portrait, landscape, and thematic composition. His works are varied, reflecting the artist's impressions of the places he visited. Among them are picturesque corners of Kremenchuk and Dnipro views, urban and maritime landscapes, the grandeur of the Carpathian Mountains, and cozy Ukrainian villages. His canvases are intriguing in terms of color and relatively compositionally perfect, revealing the life of nature at the time of their execution.
There are also commissioned portraits and paintings, such as "Shevchenko in Baturyn." He spent over a year working on it, studying the architecture of the former hetman capital. However, the artist prefers to work swiftly, capturing the vision of a painting before it fades from his mind and before the sun changes its angle and shadows. On average, according to the artist, he spends about 40 minutes on a single landscape.
Boris successfully combines a poetic perception of the world and a deep understanding of nature with brilliant artistic execution. His paintings exude a special light and a delicate sense of nature – vivid colors on the canvas resonate with intermediate tones. The artist has abandoned contours, replacing them with separate and contrasting brushstrokes; his paintings amaze with colors, not only their diversity but also the amount of substance applied to the canvas – vibrant, vivid, voluminous.
Describing the master's works is a challenging task. Boris Serdyuk's works are special – they are painted with soul. One must see and feel the wonderful harmony of nature on the artist's canvases firsthand and touch the great mystery of Art.
