Biography

Kévin Pinsembert is part of a French art collective called "Moderne Jazz," alongside some fifteen artists, including Alexis Poline, based between Paris, Marseille, and Los Angeles. Pinsembert's work shares a kinship with the work of Georgio Morandi and depicts raw still lifes that blend objects, bodies, and Parisian street scenes. He combines unlikely entities—Toyota cars, rocks, rooftops, and evocative colors—and then assembles them on his canvases as abstract entities. While some of these elements become anonymous and unrecognizable objects, they are sometimes stacked on top of each other, or appear to be lying around on tables or shelves. These abstract compositions are then given formal labels painted upside down, which reveal the nature of these geometries. Kévin Pinsembert takes language and constrains it by diverting it for his own use.
