Biography

Josette Ayroles-Jomaray is an artist who debuted her career in 1982. She was born in 1943 in Sidi Bel Abbes in Algeria and began very early to draw with a pencil and colors but the course of life led her become a midwife (diploma from the Faculty of Medicine of Montpellier in 1968). She moves to Brittany with her family and this is where she starts creating her artistic works.

Back to the south of France, (Toulouse, 1982) she attended special courses during six years at the EBA as well as print-making, painting, modelling and art history courses. In 1992 she started working in a large studio in the center of Toulouse and switched to monumental canvases that she painted on on both sides. Her creativity has no limits, and and she creates unconventional works mixing a wide variety of materials and techniques, including traditional techniques on Japanese paper and textiles.

She became interested in psychoanalysis and created the PSYCHE association. Part of the International College of Psychoanalysis and Anthropology in Paris, she works close to renowned psychiatrists and psychoanalysts for ten years. She feels compelled to return to her artistic practice, by establishing a distance with psychoanalysis that was another form of creation for her.
