Mathieu Nozières

Born in 1988 - Belgium

Born in 1988 in Grenoble (France), Mathieu Nozières lives and works in Belgium.

Mathieu Nozières is a painter who works in two different registers. The first one includes small formats in black and white, produced in ink on plastic. These works are often harsh and make us ask ourselves what they are and what they mean. Doubts and questions arise from their strangeness. The other side of his work includes paintings on canvas, no less strange, because they present a sort of condensation of elements that constitute a disparate world between reality and fantasy, between fiction and culture. A concentrated soup of references more or less easy to decipher, conveyed to us in a rush, suggested, without frills, in a very witty style; they are typical of today, and far from a demonstration of talent. And the question that inevitably comes to our minds is: what are culture, painting, and art?
