Biography
The sculptor Philippe Gourier was born in France in 1954. His studio in Roubaix is where he fashions metal into enormous objects, sometimes weighing more than a tonne.
With a training background in technology, his approach to drawing is highly technical. This especially enables him to model the geometrical forms he eventually places in three-dimensional space.
Though he experiments with various materials, he is fascinated by the density of metal. He plays with impressions of lightness and heaviness, very nearly confusing and mixing the two qualities in his works.
He has exhibited his pieces at the Nuit des Arts de Roubaix festival, at the Phoenix Beukenhof gallery, and at the Lieve Lambrecht gallery in Belgium on multiple occasions.
