Charlotte Aleman was born in Avignon in 1986; she lives and studied in Nîmes before moving to Strasbourg. Interested in art and culture, especially in video art, Charlotte Aleman is attracted by the arts from a very young age.
She started to take photographs and, in the beginning, she is not yet familiar with the latest techniques and does not create sophisticated settings. Her first images are in black and white and she learns to develop her films herself. This passion for photography evolved and became the most important thing in her life.
She creates her own atmospheres and settings from her imagination. The themes she deals with in her surrealistic and colorful works are the modern cult of the ego and the projections of obsolete moments. Her dynamic and rich images full of cinema and art history references evoke the cult of the ego, fantasy and strangeness, with a constant will to privilege the poetic and the ephemeral.
