Biography
Born in 1947, Jean-Claude Delaigle is a self-taught French artist who started to create at the age of 28. From that time on, he did not leave his studio, even he is very demanding with his own work, he has even burned some of his paintings.
"I painted on anything, pieces of wood etc. I even stole paint from a BHV store. I painted all the time. In a compelling way. "
He developed his style quickly from abstraction to figuration but retained references to movies and music. The talent of the artist lies in his use of bright colors, simplified graphics and a pronounced taste for frameworks. His compositions are built by series of color strips on which he portrays human activities, in a similar style to cartoons.
Always cheerful, warm and playful, his figures are often children running, playing, enjoying a moment of relaxation. The period of childhood is Jean-Claude Delaigle's favorite subject. He depicts a happy and innocent universe in which any adult would like to plunge.
In 2004, a retrospective of his 10 years of career was exhibited at the Pavillon de l'Erable, Avon.
