Yo Marchand

Born in: 1936

Yo Marchand was born in Montluçon on 7 March 1936.

After passing through the Goetz and Hayter studios, she started her artistic career in the early 60s.

Her paintings are veiled messages, almost clandestine writings, mysterious letters, esoteric epistles, aleatory Cryptograms. They could never imagine teaching, documenting, telling any story, explaining, demonstrating, commenting. They prefer to manifest themselves as they are. They come out with strenght and are very obvious.

The paintings of Yo Marchand are the fruit of rigurous geometric constructions and of a poetic approach of the visual material.

Since 1965, Yo Marchand has been showing her work regularly in numerous galleries, in France and abroad.

Several public collections in France have bought artworks of Yo Marchand: the Musée National d'Art Moderne from Paris, the Fonds National d'Art Contemporain from Paris et other museums in the rest of France.

The work of Yo Marchand was the object of numerous retrospectives in various exceptional spaces: the Corderie Royale in Rochefort, the Abbaye de Noirlac and the Musée du Nouveau Monde in La Rochelle.
