Marc Sommer

Born in: 1970

Born in 1970, Marc Sommer lives in Strasbourg, his hometown. The artist has a thirst for knowledge therefore he studied business, finance, administration and German literature in Heidelberg and Vienna. While traveling in East Europe, he caught a taste of silver film photography. 2007 onward, Marc Sommer turned towards digital photography.

His photos combine varied elements, which liberate logic. Marc Sommer disseminates fantasy embellished with a sense of incongruity and absurdity. Photo turns its back on digital montage, in order to shoulder the role of demiurge-director. He gives body to parables which eradicates common sense and hits senses. His photos have a mirror like effect, which distort our lives.

The artist is represented by differents gallery in Paris, (he exhibited alongside Laurence Demainson, at the end of 2015). Simultaneously, he signed his first novel in 2005 « La Pratique du patin à glace par mauvais temps ». In 2010, accompanied with Patrick Bailly-Maître-Grand the photographer, he inaugurated his first major work « Les apologues ». His friend salutes his work. "This photographer is a sleight of hand expert, his work is absurd and poetic. Completely in touch with reality-he doesn't take the easy way round with digital collages like Photoshop-he really builds his artifice with real tools and sometimes lets out certain secrets of his machinery".
