Otto D'Ambra

Italy Born in: 1978
Otto d'Ambra is an Italian artist born in 1978. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts “Accademia di Brera” specialized in set design. After his studies, he started working as a set designer for different interior design practices.
At the same time Otto pursued his own aesthetic and graphic researches and, fascinated by the body, began a career as a tattoo artist in 2005.
In 2009, he settled in London, where he developed a high interest for engraving. Three years later, he opened his own studio “The White Elephant”, a creative and multidisciplinary place where he could lead his different artistic interests. He currently works full time to develop his own tattoo style and the conception of his surrealist engravings.

The universe of Otto Ambra is highly inspired by surrealism and works on interfering our perception of reality. His drawings express a vision of the world at the same time ironic and critic, and seem to tell us "we are all animals". The images he creates are direct and powerful, although they are comprised of simple and recognizable elements. By combining incompatible realities, the artist questions the absurd and chaotic world in which we live. Between his hands, the human meets the inanimate and the ideals of love and society seem to go up in smoke. Furthermore Otto likes the paradox between the ancestral technique of engraving and the surreal boldness of his artworks.

Otto Ambra realized his first exhibition in England, entitled "We are all animals", at the Curious Duke Gallery of London in June 2015.
