  • About the artwork

Emilie Danchin has successfully explored a middle course, a sort of third way between the genders. The characters in her work seem confused and uncertain. The photographs, moreover, do not seem to fit in their frames, even though they are traditionally and meticulously produced. Despite the diagnosis, the label, or the interpretation, it is the echoes, the displacements, and the ambiguities that count in these images. Powerful visual answers emerge from the simple, never-ending game of puzzles. Yet, ultimately, it is the viewers who do not know how they should behave or who begin to doubt what they see.
