  • About the artwork

    "December 2014, I got a flight Paris-Salvador.

I left the dark and grey winter behind. With my Fuji Highlighted by an omnipresent blue, a blue which is EX-2, I went for a documentation travel, hoping to a sky, a sea and also subjectiveness, a movement register the exuberant culture of my country. But I from the outside to the inside, a winter blues, a get there and I stuck. Being in Brazil puts me in a song that speaks of love and lost, in a falsely happy stupor condition. For the first time ever, I felt quite melody... like a foreigner. I felt weird. Something avoided me going after the clichés. A kind of a feeling.

Before I got Into this blue, this series of photos shows me I was looking for other realities, but then it revealed country of a religiousness that is not mine, of to myself not being a matter of curiosity. It was not popular music I don't dance, of the workers that put a query for novelties. Only a desire of photograph, me in contact with my family history and of popular instinctively.

So I let it go. Bars were I feel like home. Back home, I realized the apparently disconnected also the chaos, the noise, the excess of cars and images lead to some sort of narrative. Not a story sunlight that in some part determined who we are, full of key informations that tells something new for me about Brazil, but rather a sentimental journey that regards an actual state of mind."

Photo taken at Cachoeira, January 2015. Cachoeira is a city within 100 kms from Salvador de Bahia that manufactures the best Brazilian cigars. During the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, Cachoeira was a rich cargo port. Wealth that funded the construction of its historical center, an iconic architectural heritage of the Brazilian barocco. In the twentieth century, economic decline turned down the healthy city.

Fernanda Peruzzo

Born in: 1979

Fernanda Peruzzo is a Brazilian artist born in 1979. Journalist, graduated from the PUC-PR University, Fernanda Peruzzo worked as a reporter and writer for more than ten years in several newspapers, reviews and agencies (to mention a few: Gazeta do Povo, Veja, Top View) before getting settled in Paris.

2011 onwards, she began photography at the heart of the French capital. Without losing her reporting mechanisms, she decided to research on social behavior, capitalism, individuality and stereotypes.

Her last project, "Moi, Brésilienne" treats the image of a Brazilian woman in France. A unified city like Paris, she criticizes the blending of the fashion market which has twisted the identity of quarters such as Le Marais or Canal Saint Martin.

The artist is now based in Sicily, and develops projects between Italy, France and Brazil.
