Presentation
Thomas Henriot is a French artist born in Besançon in 1980 who lives and works between Cuba, India and France. He graduated from the Institut National Superieure d'Expression Plastique in Besançon in 2003 with the congratulations of the jury.
Thomas Henriot's drawings focus on the motif, and it is from his numerous trips that he draws his inspiration from. Whether in Morocco, Lebanon, Oman, Argentina, Mali or India, he likes discovering other cultures and foreign lands. He works on the ground, on rolls that he carries with him, painting on long strips of Japanese paper 45cm wide and measuring even 25m long. He does several works in succession and in public, unfolding as the drawing progresses. It then juxtaposes landscapes, architectures, characters, between images and realities.
The China ink, enhanced sometimes with ink and color, is his favorite technique which he learned besides Chinese traditional painters, during his stay in China in 2005, where he attended the School of Fine Arts of Xi'an. The vivacity of his line, its continuity, the extent of the gesture, gives originality to his travelling documentaries, album memories, which are the culmination of a performance choreographed in the urban space, gesture that organizes the space of the drawing into an existential process.
His work has been exhibited on numerous solo and group exhibitions around the world. His work is part of several prestigious private collections in India, Europe, USA, Brazil.
