Biography

Andy Santori (Antoine Semhoun, born in 1995 in France) is a French self-taught contemporary painter whose work stands at the crossroads of contemporary art, gestural abstraction, expressionism, and outsider-inspired painting. Driven by an urgent need to create, he has developed a highly personal visual language combining portraits, self-portraits, cinematic references, heroic figures, and existential themes.

Santori describes artistic creation as an emotional process guided by sensitivity rather than imagination. Without formal academic training, he built an extensive visual culture through painting, literature, and cinema. His artistic influences include Georg Baselitz, Mark Rothko, Henri Matisse, Gustave Moreau, Hans Hartung, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Vincent van Gogh, and Egon Schiele.

His paintings are characterized by vibrant colors, expressive brushstrokes, thick layers of paint, scratches, drips, and spontaneous gestures. Through these techniques, he explores themes such as identity, memory, destiny, resilience, human emotions, and the passage of time.

Portraits and self-portraits are recurring motifs in his work. Legendary figures such as Muhammad Ali and the fictional character Rocky Balboa serve as symbols of perseverance and personal struggle. Angels and demons also appear throughout his compositions, reflecting his interest in the duality between good and evil.

In 2022, Santori presented the exhibition “Les Visages” at Galerie Vellutini in Paris. In 2024, he was the subject of “Man on the Moon” at Christian Berst Art Brut, curated by Jennifer Flay. The exhibition highlighted his fascination with heroic figures, fate, and the inexorable passage of time.

Today, Andy Santori is recognized as an emerging voice in French contemporary painting, creating emotionally charged works that combine raw energy, introspection, and poetic intensity.
