Diet Sayler

Germany • 1939

Biography

Diet Sayle, born in Romania in 1939, was awarded the Grand Prize for Culture of the City of Nuremberg in 2018. He emigrated to Germany in 1972 and taught as a professor in Nuremberg from 1992 to 2005, where he made Nuremberg a national capital of these movements with the series of exhibitions "konkret" from 1980 to 1990.

He is himself one of the most important concrete artists in Europe - one of the unorthodox representatives of this guild. For him, chance is an insurance against the lie that any absolutization of a system entails.

We are exhibiting works by Diet Sayler (born 1939) which follow an "individualized geometry" which, despite their constructivist sobriety, gives them a palpable, independent aura.

But unlike constructivist utopias and minimalist anonymity, Sayler places subjectivity alongside intuitive power and chance, and propagates the freedom of color - it is not the diktat of primary colors that prevails, but the intermediate tone. From 1992 to 2005, Sayler was a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Nuremberg.
