Geer van Velde was a Dutch abstract painter born on April 5, 1898, in Lisse, Netherlands. 

Van Velde began his artistic journey as a house painter before studying at the Rotterdam Academy of Fine Arts. In the 1920s, he moved to Paris, where he immersed himself in the vibrant art scene and formed connections with influential artists like Piet Mondrian and Joan Miró

Van Velde developed a distinctive style characterized by subtle color palettes, simplified forms, and expressive brushwork. His work evolved from figurative to abstract, exploring the interplay between light, space, and composition. 

Van Velde gained international recognition, exhibiting in major art institutions and galleries across Europe. His contributions to abstract art continue to inspire and influence contemporary artists, cementing his legacy as a significant figure in modern art history. 

Van Velde died on March 5, 1977, in Cachan, France.
