According to Isaac Newton, white is not a colour, but "the hue obtained by mixing the light of all colours". This is why in the West it is given a sense of unity, of perfect balance, of the sacred. In our minds, however, it is the absolute absence of colour. So non-colour or colour revealer? Throughout the art history, white has inspired many painters, from Lucio Fontana to Kasimir Malevitch and Robert Ryman.
