Description
This artwork, composed of four juxtaposed vertical panels, depicts majestic sailing ships in full motion. The artist uses a neutral color palette dominated by shades of gray, white, and black, creating a sense of calm and sophistication. The large, angular sails occupy a central position, capturing a timeless elegance. The movement suggested by the slant of the sails and the robust texture of the brushwork injects a dynamic and lively energy. The repetition of the sailboats across the panels evokes a harmonious regularity, symbolizing the regatta. The dark, diluted reflections at the base of the sailboats reinforce the illusion of water, bringing depth and realism to the scene. The overall effect demonstrates technical mastery and a modernist interpretation of the nautical theme.
Presentation
Born in 1977 in Hô-Chi-Minh-City, Vietnam, Olivier Messas is a painter living between France and Germany. After moving to France from Vietnam at the age of two, he quickly developed an independent character while remaining attached to his family and cultural values.
Initially orientated towards studies in accounting, Messas did not find satisfaction in this path and turned to fashion and styling before finally finding his true mode of expression in painting. His art, a subtle blend of realism and spirituality, draws inspiration from his many travels and encounters with different cultures. He distinguishes himself through vivid colors and clean lines, representing a balance between his emotions and his cultural heritage.
Olivier Messas regularly exhibits his work in Europe and Asia, and has received numerous awards, including the "Peinture & Sculpture" prize at the Salon International d'Art Contemporain in Saint-Tropez in 2016. His work is recognized for its ability to create unique atmospheres and moods, making him an artist appreciated for sharing and meeting with the public.
For Messas, artistic creation is an escape from the real world and a way of expressing his imagination and creative impulses. His work aims to strike a coloristic and structural balance, while conveying his impressions and intuitions through harmonious, evocative compositions.
