Collector’s Guide
Cécile Jaunet is a multi-faceted artist from Laonnaise who is currently in residence at the Château de Breuil in Bruyères and Montbérault.
Like Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, in The Little Prince, she kept the gaze of wonder at life, an admiration for Chagall of his verisimilitude of his deep rhythms for his moving line. Cécile Jaunet paints in acrylic and Indian ink for two or four hours then stops. His paintings which are born in this restricted temporality are the reflection of life and its fleetingness. Like Baudelaire, in his paintings, “the scents, colors and sounds respond to each other” and the painter goes so far as to perfume some of her paintings. Cécile Jaunet's works find their inspiration in literature, in her travels, in her encounters or even in music. She does not hesitate to paint with music and draws the raw material for her artistic gesture from sound.
If she paints mainly at home, Cécile Jaunet sometimes works outside (in front of Reims Cathedral, in Brussels or in front of the Eiffel Tower.) When she is at home, the artist paints against the wall or on the floor. The plastic artist binds her canvases with scotch tape in the image of people being repaired. His works are often monumental in size and the artist sees an interest in the use of this disproportionate format. Cécile Jaunet appropriates this virgin space and creates a work there with various techniques.
The tools used by the artist are multiple and Cécile Jaunet alternates between brushes, knives and even her hands. His body echoes his paintings, the instrument of his painting. Cécile Jaunet does not hesitate to draw and stage herself in her paintings. This fictional game is in the continuity of his love for literature and in particular, in connection with the novels of Amélie Nothomb which marked his life.
Cécile Jaunet's pictorial approach has a universal scope in the same way as music or literature. The artist explores the poetics of the living through raw materials: paint, paper, tape that she assembles and organizes using her artist's language in order to transform them into works. These paintings draw their essence and strength from life. Above all, Cécile Jaunet creates emotions, visual implications that overwhelm the viewer and lead him to have a new outlook on life. His works invite spectators to a moment of contemplation during which everyone sees in his paintings what animates him.
Far from being a simple artist, Cécile Jaunet offers viewers a moment of beauty. These dreamlike works are marked by bold, dazzling, brilliant colors which fill the space and seem to come out of the canvases.
Cécile Jaunet constantly oscillates between figurative and abstract, plays with codes and composes her own rules, moving from one genre to another with ease.
