Presentation

Above all, Adrien Seguin appears as a colourist, heir to the Fauves, skilled in exalting pure tones, in developing daring, striking harmonies. He lived his youth in Africa, then studied from 1946 to 1950 at the School of Fine Arts in Montpellier. He then entered the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, from 1952 to 1955, then the Académie André Lhote from 1955 to 1958. He obtained the first prize at the Dôme in 1957 (President Foujita). Medal of Honor of the City of Montpellier (1981). Gold medal Arts Sciences et Lettres (2001) / Citation in Benezit - Drouot rating. It was at the age of 10 that the desire to paint came to him. He received his first lessons at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Montpellier, then at that of Paris. He will frequent the painters of Montparnasse at the same time as the André Lhote Academy. He forged his technique by confronting the painters Desnoyer, Calvet, Couderc, Decossy, Dezeuze in particular. He has a very personal style which makes him recognized by all. His work is sometimes disconcerting, sometimes violent and tumultuous, often tender with hints of humor that he likes to distill in the texts that accompany his drawings. Far from artifices and facilities, the work of Adrien Seguin appears free from all lies. Adrien Seguin died in Montpellier in 2005.
