Biography

Hervé Couton is a French photographer, born in November 1955.

Hervé Couton studied photography at the end of 1970, he was taught by Joachim Bonnemaison at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Dijon.

At the whim of wandering random routes in urban areas, the artist collects and gathers silent testimonies of passers-by, anonymous and ephemeral signs and marks interspersed in the streets, squares and city centers.

The recent triptych series "Les Passages" began in 2009, and unveils all these fragile impressions, left behind by outbound silhouettes, thoughtful and already elsewhere, but also by absent and past shadows.

As an obvious proof of spontaneous shooting, the blurry aspect is the key element of his photo composition. Hervé Couton uses this blur repeatedly in his photos, therefore giving his images an almost perceptible look.
