Biography

Franklin Torres was born and raised in a very particular cultural and political context which nourishes his work and catalyzes his work. It is the Medellin- (Colombia) of the 80s, a sort of cathartic breeding ground for societal issues. It is the advent of a consumer society on the North American style in a Latin America which has just been built between an exacerbated Catholicism and ancient indigenous cultures. It is the visual omnipresence of a Pop culture where superheroes and hyperconsumption converge to define modern man.

Franklin has training in communication and advertising; Field in which he worked as a freelance to then study plastic arts in Paris and devotes himself fully to creation and art.

Franklin Torres' work combines opposites in a baroque dreamlike world, populated by characters, which ignores time. The sacred meets the secular, the ritual plays with the everyday, the urban and the street world rub shoulders with the tribal and the indigenous, humor responds to the violence of the subjects discussed. From urban gangs and marginalization to mass consumerism, including spirituality, shamanism.

the Colombian Pre and Post legacy is one of many issues that Franklin Torres explores with irreverence, humanism and humor.
