Presentation

Rémi Blanchard, born in 1958, is one of the four founders of the Figuration Libre movement. His work has been exhibited in the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum, the Musée d’art Moderne in Paris and Pittsburgh Contemporary Art Center. While studying Fine Art in Quimper, a meeting with Professor Bernard Lamarche-Vadel would be significant, and eventually led to him settling in Paris in 1980.

The painter produced many works, but these were sadly lost during a fire in his studio located at the time in La Villette. He became involved in the « Figuration Libre » movement alongside iconic artists such as Robert Combas and Hervé di Rosa in order to free art from hierarchy and social conventions.

Contrary to the artists in the movement who make humorous and provocative art, Rémi Blanchard draws his references from tales, myths and legends to depict colourful characters, highlighted with wide black outlines, set in child-like, bucolic settings.
