Douglas Holtquist is an American artist born in 1952 in Minnesota, and lives and works between New York and Pietrasanta (Lucca).
He makes sculptures with a passive in oriental art, Holtquist also inserted Ikebana, an ancestral Japanese art comprising of floral composition. Extremely influenced by this philosophical tradition which combines beauty and strength, he applies the principles of Ikebana in his figurative sculptures made in marble, bronze and wood.
Therefore, he is able to bring in unique tension between line, balance and movement in his sculptures, defining his personal style, where he always uses some humor.
His work has been exhibited during several personal and collective exhibitions, especially in Italy and Netherlands. His works are part of foundation collections in USA and in the private collections in Europe, Japan, Canada and USA.
