Son Excellence Otto

France • 1976

Biography

His Excellency Otto was born in 1896 somewhere in France from unknown parents (at least that's what he claims).

He crossed the twentieth century as one crosses a crossroads without looking, with contempt and unconsciousness.

Through his work, both literary and graphic, Otto celebrates gastronomy, wine, tools of martyrdom, extreme science, teratology, artillery, voluptuous women, academic painting and war.

Its dark and sophisticated aesthetic, called "funeral neoclassical", is largely inspired by ancient imagery and the academic arts of the second half of the nineteenth century.

One foot in each century Otto mixes styles, mocks trends. He claims an unique graphic universe, characterized by black and white.

This deliciously outdated art; marrying the antique with art deco and constructivism, is the most conservative (and absurd) advance of the artistic avant-garde.

Otto has published volumes of his autobiography, "Philosophy in Boudoir" (Taboo 2010), "Siegfried Follies" (Taboo 2015), and "a French indecency" (Timeless, 2012) - A collection of posters and illustrations, "Colossale Finesse" (Timeless, 2018).
