Description
Photorealistic insect painting of the blue scarab beetles. I channel my enthusiasm for the amazing characteristics of animals by rendering them with academic oil painting techniques on canvas. The background is beige/cream color. I was fascinated by their amazingly beautiful blue/green metallic color. They look like gemstones to me. The beetle is crawling towards the hole on the ground. I believe that the object of the "hole" has a mysterious atmosphere. It could indicate the birth or the end, either way. This painting has a surrealistic atmosphere because of the hole. In Ancient Egypt, the dung beetle now known as Scarabaeus sacer was revered as sacred. The Egyptians saw the scarab as a symbol of renewal and rebirth. The beetle was associated closely with the sun god because scarabs roll large balls of dung in which to lay their eggs, a behavior that the Egyptians thought resembled the progression of the sun through the sky from east to west.

Artist Statement:
~Biography~
Born in Chiba, Japan, Yuko was reared by parents who appreciated every aspect of art. As a child growing up in Bangladesh her creative talents began to flourish.
In 2000, Yuko attended Tama Art University in Tokyo majoring in oil painting. At that time, her method of expression gradually shifted from canvas to jewelry design. As a result, Yuko launched a jewelry brand while simultaneously attending school. Her jewelry has been sold worldwide and has collaborated with popular fashion brands.
Yuko spent several years in the Netherlands and the United States and moved to Nagasaki Japan, where it's surrounded by beautiful mountains and the blue ocean.
She was deeply impressed by the majestic nature and animals there and that led her soul to start painting again.
Yuko channels her enthusiasm for the amazing characteristics of the animals formed in the process of evolution onto canvas. Employing academic oil painting techniques in the creations of her pieces, Yuko believes that oil gives life to her art because the medium "works inquisitively as if it has its spirit".
Her works are housed in private collections widely around the world.
Yuko is also passionate about preserving beautiful nature and the planet earth for the next generation. By donating a portion of the art sales, she contributes to nature conservation activities.
~Artist Statement~
I paint the beauty of the universe as I see it reflected through nature's majesty in my current home of Nagasaki, Japan. I believe that every animal that exists in this world deserves to be called God's masterpiece.
Their remarkable behaviors and appearances have evolved to support their roles on this planet...toward the fulfillment of each of their destinies.
I channel my enthusiasm for the amazing characteristics of animals by rendering them with academic oil painting techniques on canvas. Oil paint works inquisitively as if it has its own spirit— I believe this quality gives vivacity to the animals in my work.
Through my paintings, I hope that viewers will truly appreciate the extraordinary world that surrounds us.
