Print by the Artist Marie Hugo.
This work is produced using several techniques: Wood engraving, a specialty of our workshop, and double tint of the rag paper during its manufacture by Moulin de Brousse.
Several months of work were necessary to obtain 80 sheets that meet the wishes of the artist. Marie Hugo wanted to find shades of “Hugo blue” in this paper. A color obtained in the material itself by a very artisanal and somewhat mysterious process of pressing two pastes. This pressure gives leaves that are all different, with random shades, a bit like with “mixed earths” in ceramics.
The dominant black part is obtained by wood engraving, manually, with a gouge by our Engraver. This saves the line of Marie Hugo's drawing on the pear wood matrix. The printing of the wood is carried out on the Mielhe 1911 of the Atelier DPJ

Presentation
Marie Hugo is a French painter, engraver, lithographer, visual artist, daughter of Jean Hugo, great-granddaughter of Victor Hugo; she lives and works between London and the Camargue where she was born.
At the age of sixteen, she entered the École des Beaux-Arts in Montpellier and received training in engraving and lithography while working alongside her father.
She moved to Hong Kong where she learned to paint murals for large public commissions.
Back in Europe, inspired by the landscapes and art of the Far East, she painted large Indian ink washes. In a search for balance between full and empty his work oscillates between figuration and abstraction.
At the heart of his art are leaves, bamboo, lotus, pebbles, insects, octopus. She creates installations. His “forests of light” are composed of large canvases mounted in square columns while a metal mesh sculpture “Medusa” seems to play with water, air and light.
His works are present in several private collections in Europe and the United States.
