Biography
Cyprien Tokoudagba, born in Abomey (Benin) in 1939 and died on May 5, 2012, is an internationally recognized Beninese painter, modeler and sculptor, who lived and worked in Abomey.
Cyprien Tokoudagba participated in the Magiciens de la terre exhibition in Paris in 1989, presented simultaneously at the Center Georges Pompidou and the Grande Halle de la Villette. His art is inspired by the representation of the religious symbols of voodoo which he used for the decoration of numerous temples and voodoo buildings (sculptures and murals), but his originality and his success are linked to the fact that he released this art religious spaces to bring it to exhibition spaces. He is one of the most prominent African artists. Tokoudagba takes part in the Benin Biennale and its bas-reliefs are still visible in the villages around Abomey.
